Dr. Fatima Ahmed

Dr. Riaz Ahmed Mangrio

Associate Professor

He is an Associate Professor and Head of the English Department at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), Karachi. His inspiring academic journey—driven by perseverance and faith—began with over a decade of hard work in various jobs to self-fund his education. He earned his PhD from Newcastle University, supported by HEC Pakistan, part-time work, and personal sacrifices.

Dr. Mangrio has presented at international forums in Poland and the UK and served on the HEC National Curriculum Revision Committee for English programs in 2017. Formerly HOD at the University of Gujrat (2012–2017), he has supervised 4 PhD and 18 MPhil theses, and conducted over 35 defenses across Pakistan.

He founded key academic journals and served on editorial boards, promoting quality research in linguistics. Passionate about equitable education, Dr. Mangrio's life embodies the belief that knowledge, perseverance, and faith can overcome all barriers.

Prof. Muhammad Hassan

Mr. Wafa Mansoor Buriro

Assistant Professor

He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), Karachi, with over a decade of teaching and research experience. He holds an MS in Applied Linguistics from NED University and a BS in English Linguistics from the University of Sindh, where he graduated with distinction. Currently pursuing a PhD in English Linguistics, Mr. Buriro has authored five books, 15 peer-reviewed articles, and translated notable works into Urdu and Sindhi.

He joined SMIU in 2015 and has been instrumental in founding and coordinating the English Department. His research focuses on sociolinguistics, language policy, corpus linguistics, and indigenous language preservation. Mr. Buriro has held key academic roles, including Member of the SMIU Senate and Managing Editor of the Sindh Journal of Linguistics.

He was awarded a fully funded grant to attend the TESOL 2025 Convention in California and is fluent in English, Sindhi, and Urdu.
